Mr Declan Barry
Managing Director of Atex Explosion Hazards Ltd
Declan Barry started as a Mechanical Engineer in Ireland in 1978 he completed further education with the Institute of Industrial Management and Product Development 1984 to 87. This got Declan into a career developing Explosion Protection services with Mercury Engineering in 1987, finishing as to General Manager 1997. His primary task was testing and installing Pressure Hot Water Explosion Suppression Systems for the Dairy industry. Declan bought Explosion Hazards in 1998. He is Member of the Institute of Engineers in Ireland, European Safety Management Group, the EU’s Safetynet programme, National Standards Association of Ireland representative to CEN TC305 and BSI EXL/023 standards representative and is also member of MHEA and on the council of SHAPA
Mr Ivan Skidmore
Sales & Technical Director for Power Minerals Ltd. (PML)
Ivan has 20 years of experience in the ash industry, joining the PML management team in 2014. Ivan’s experience spans the cement and energy industry in environmental, technical engineering and commercial roles. Ivan started his career in aerospace and is a graduate of Management and Manufacturing Systems. Ivan currently holds the following positions: Director of Power Minerals Ltd., Director of the European Coal Combustion Products Association GmbH (ECOBA), President from 2015-2019., Executive and Technical Committee Member of the UK Quality Ash Association (UKQAA), Chair 2012-2017., Director of Cinis Management Ltd. (AshTrans Conferences and ASHES Magazine).
Mr Dan Birkett
Sales Manager – Asia Pacific, Southern Africa & Middle East – SAMSON Materials Handling Ltd.
A British Mechanical Engineering graduate with over 25 years’ experience in Materials Handling and Pollution Control equipment around the globe. Currently, Sales Manager for SAMSON Materials Handling Ltd covering Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Southern Africa regions.
Mr Alessandro Mario
Technical Sales Engineer at Hydronix Ltd
Alessandro Mario started to take things apart to see how they worked as soon as he could hold a screwdriver… later, during his teenage years, he learned how to put things back together. Now a Chartered Electrical and Automation Engineer, with 10 years of experience in customer service, continuous improvement and engineering, he now works with Hydronix to help companies improve the efficiency of their processes, and increase their revenue, by providing expert advice on moisture measurement solutions. He shares the Hydronix vision that by helping customers to succeed, he helps to build a more sustainable future.
Professor Mike Bradley
Director, The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology, University of Greenwich
Mike is Professor in Particle and Bulk Technology and Director of the Wolfson Centre at the University of Greenwich. He was awarded both his honour degrees and PHD from Thames Polytechnic (now the University of Greenwich) and as the Director, provides technical leadership in all aspects of bulk solids handling. His particular areas of interest lie in pneumatic conveying, design of hoppers and silos, dust control, plant integration and maintenance of product quality. He is Chair of The Solids Handling And Processing Association (SHAPA), a Member of the Materials Handling Engineers Association (MHEA) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Bulk Materials Handling Committee (IMechE).
Dr. Miles Watkins
Miles worked for Aggregate Industries for 17 years, ultimately performing the role of Sustainability Director, an executive position holding responsibility for a wide range of corporate services. Subsequently Miles took a post as Business Development Director of the Building Research Establishment leading several business units in the UK, USA and China as well as directing group commercial activity. Miles is now an independent sustainability professional who alongside management consulting also runs two circularity-based start-ups in minerals and polymers respectively. Miles has a PhD from the School of Management, University of Bath, is a Chartered Environmentalist, an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Mr Eoin McQuone
Chief Carbon Coach and founder of Go Climate Positive
Eoin is the Chief Carbon Coach and founder of “Go Climate Positive”, a community of businesses determined to make a difference on climate change. Having worked in manufacturing companies for over 30 years, his career path has taken him from engineering, through marketing to company director. He finally became an ecopreneur in 2019 and has helped over 70 SMEs to start the journey of decarbonising their businesses and products. He is a Practitioner member of the Institute of Environmental Management, an adviser to the Cheltenham Zero Partnership and an associate consultant for Hartpury University and FutureLeap. His aim is to place the tools of sustainability into the hands of every business owner. He’s an optimist and passionately believes that business thrives when people and the planet also thrive.
Mr Julian Smallshaw
Head of Education and Standards – Institute of Quarrying
Julian has worked in the extractives industry all his life. After graduating from the University of Leeds Mining Department with a BSc in Quarrying he focused on operational management. He ran a range of mineral extractives operations throughout the UK but more recently managed multi million tonne operations in the Middle East. Latterly he joined the Institute of Quarrying as Head of Education and Standards working closely with stakeholders and educational institutions to develop and run a range a qualifications and training for the industry. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK; holds a Post Grad Diploma in Education and an OFQUAL Industry Expert (The UK Government Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).
Mr Richard Woosnam
Principle Engineer – Alternative Use Boston projects Ltd
Richard Woosnam is multi-skilled engineer and has been involved in large infrastructure and processing plants since the last century, well since 1980 anyway. He has worked on plants in EMEA and the Americas, from a blank piece of paper up to latest BIM construction techniques, mainly on Rail, Port, Energy, Waste and Chemical sectors. Previous projects included Peel ports Group, Drax, Eggborough Power station and Rugeley Power Station and Interfaces with supporting rail freight companies, ORR, and Network Rail. Though the client changes the principles and project drivers and goals only get more enhanced. Our scheme is the largest , privately financed project in the UK, and probably the greenest. He has been working with the Alternative Use Group on their major projects for some 5 years for this project, but previously worked on developing Boston 1 , the nascent phases which lead to Boston 2 – The BAEF which was developed by the BAEF Team.
Mr Gary Sinclair
Operations Director – Compass Minerals
Gary is currently Operations Director for Compass Minerals UK, Compass are a largest supplier of road de-icing salt to the UK market the 5th largest document storage business, specialising in high quality temperature and humidity control secure storage. Gary has had a career in engineering across various sectors from mining through to FMGC products. Gary is leading a global initiative by Compass Minerals to improve hoist safety across its US and Canadian mines
Matt Elliott
Regional Sales Engineer – IEP Technologies Ltd
IEP Technologies have been providing market leading explosion protection solutions for over 60 years. Matt is part of this legacy, by providing active and passive explosion protection systems in the UK. As a qualified mechanical engineer with an HNC, and ten years’ experience in technical sales relating to material handling and ATEX, Matt has the knowledge to address any challenges IEP Technologies face. His key focus is “to help customers mitigate explosion risks within industry”. This is implemented by listening to customers and proficiently designing explosion protection solutions in line with regulation, IEP Technologies’ design guidance and EN standards.
Mr Alexander Barnes
Design Engineer and Project Manager at TerraSource Global.
Alexander is an Engineer at TerraSource Global with 8 years of experience in the material handling and size reduction equipment industry. He supports a wide range of functions from new application evaluation, machine selection and quoting, new product design, project management and after market support. Alex specializes in vibratory feeders as well as a wide variety of crushing equipment. He has handled machinery across several industries including coal, coke, potash, salt, limestone, gypsum, and concrete.

Technical Manager – Capital Projects – Engineering at Drax Group.
Technical Manager within the Capital Projects Engineering team at Drax, 22 years experience at the Drax plant mainly working through various roles within the Operations department before moving to my current role within the engineering team working on the groups capital projects.
