Who are we and what do we do?

Since its inception on the 5th October 1938, the Materials Handling Engineers' Association (MHEA) has sought to support the technical and commercial interests of UK and overseas companies supplying and using powder & bulk & handling equipment. Currently this involves industries such as Animal Food, Cement, Chemicals, Ferrous & Non Ferrous Metal Production, Food and Drinks including Confectionery, Grain & Derivatives, Minerals and Coal, Offshore Oil & Gas Industry, Pharmaceuticals, Plastics & Rubbers, Quarrying, Solid Biofuels, Water & Waste Treatment.

The two key 'Recommended Practice' design guides for troughed belt conveyors & chutes/transfer points are now undergoing a strategic review. The MHEA is responsible for the UK's only annually held International BULK Technical Awareness Seminar relating to materials handling, storage, transport and processing plant.

Site visits are a key benefit provided for corporate member companies and over the past 3 years we have received invitations and visited Aggregate Industries - Carnforth, ATH Resources - Glenmuckloch Open Cast Coal Site, Ayrshire, Corus - Scunthorpe, Drax power station, Greater Manchester Waste - Sharston, Irish Cement - Drogheda, Lafarge - Mountsorrel, RWE npower - Tilbury power station, Sonea Tafibra - Merseyside, ThyssenKrupp - Germany and UTE Tuneladora Metro Barcelona.

Furthermore, employees of MHEA Corporate Member companies can now qualify for designatory awards such as MMHEA which can be used in cv's and on business cards. Our membership now stands at 44 including important "user" companies such as ATH Resources, Carron Energy, Corus, Drax Power, E.ON Power Technology, Powerfuel, Scottish Power - Longannet, RWE npower, UK Coal and Viridor Waste Management.
